Our Story

Est. 1978

THE "PO"

Lessing’s Hospitality Group opened the Post Office Café on Main Street in Babylon in 1978. It is rare for any restaurant to celebrate over 40 years in business, but the Post Office Café is still going strong. Jack Lessing bought the old Post Office, built in the 1930s, from a friend who was running a bartending school in the building and converted it into a family pub that entertains many of the original customers to this day.

“For over 40 years Babylonians have been gathering daily at the Post Office Cafe. As we always say at the PO, people don’t come to us because they’re hungry. They come for company and companionship. They tell us they feel like they belong here, and that’s the greatest compliment we could ever be paid. They are part of the PO family.”
